Job Description

The Citi Accounting Policy group is focused on researching technical accounting matters and advising on the appropriate accounting treatment for new transactions under US GAAP and IFRS. The group is also responsible for new accounting standard implementation and advisory, developing and maintaining the firm's accounting policies on all significant accounting areas impacting Citi, and for ensuring that Citi's financial statements are presented in conformity with US GAAP. The group is organized to provide accounting advisory to Citi's various businesses and regions, with this role specifically covering Citi's Latin American region.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in accounting policy enforcement and ensure that Citi's business activities are reported in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Assist in facilitating the proper implementation of new accounting standards, disseminate information on current accounting topics and recent developments that affect Citi
  • Lead implementation efforts for new accounting standards, primarily US GAAP but including IFRS
  • Advise business heads and managers regarding the accounting implications of new products and changes to existing products
  • Research technical accounting issues and consult with other Citi Regional and Corporate Accounting Policy groups on complex transactions
  • Prepare detailed documentation to support accounting conclusions of new/modified products and complex transactions.
  • Provide accounting training (on existing and new pronouncements) to Local Finance and Business teams.
  • Use communication and diplomacy to guide and influence others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers
  • Advise on the financial statement review process to ensure all regional matters are appropriately disclosed
  • Participate in the development of Citi's Global accounting policies and positions.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.


Qualifications:

  • + years financial accounting experience and deep knowledge of financial instruments. Big 4 accounting firm financial services and/or national technical office experience (or technical accounting role at a financial institution) preferred
  • Experience working for FASB and/or U.S. banking regulator is highly desirable
  • CPA or equivalent certification required
  • The individual must possess excellent interpersonal and client service skills as well as have the ability to work very closely with many different levels of management. Exceptional written communication and documentation skills required
  • Fast thinker/quick learner and possess the ability to work effectively in a rapidly changing environment in order to meet deadlines; The successful candidate will have the ability to multi-task while working on long-term projects
  • Spanish-language proficiency a plus but not required


Education:

  • Bachelors/University degree, Master's degree preferred

We are currently working on a hybrid schedule consisting of 2-3 days in office and the remainder remote (specific details depend on location and business group). This is not a remote only role.
