Job Summary

Supports the goals and objectives of the Office of Controller by providing leadership and oversight for the day-to-day operations for the corresponding area. Serves as a liaison between the Office of the Controller, the University community and outside constituents while providing accountability in compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations, University policy and procedures as appropriate.

  • Supervises, trains and supports assigned team including day-to-day management of staff and the preparation and/or review of financial work papers, journal entries, account reconciliation and other analysis as required.
  • Provides analytical support and consulting services as needed.
  • Develops expertise in matters relating to higher education and the State of Florida University System rules and regulations, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Acquires and maintains a thorough knowledge of the available systems.
  • Monitors and gathers activity data, analyzes trends, and prepares analytical and statistical reports for management.
  • Oversees and ensures integrity of the data input into the University's financial system.
  • Assists in the interpretation, implementation, and development of policies and procedures as they relate to the specified areas of responsibilities. Assists in ensuring that the goals and objectives of the department, University/Board of Trustees and State University System (SUS) are communicated and achieved.
  • Develops internal systems to improve services and to streamline operations. This position responds to escalated issues.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Office of the Controller, the University community and outside constituents.
  • Assists with special projects as needed.
  • Provides leadership and direction for various functions within the Financial Accounting and Reporting team, including but not limited to General Accounting, Bank Reconciliation, Disbursement, Accounts Receivable and Cash Management teams.
  • Assists the Financial Reporting team with the annual Audited Financial Statement preparation process.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting and six (6) years of related experience or Master's degree in Accounting and four (4) years of related experience.

Departmental Requirements

Must file an annual Statement of Financial Interest form.
