Job Summary

Manages and supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental, health, and safety programs within the organization. Work closely with management, employees, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations while promoting a safe and healthy work environment.

  • Develops programs and policies for FIU Parking, Sustainability and Transportation (PS&T). Regularly presents recommendations to the Associate Vice-President (AVP) and Senior staff. Identify, report, recommends and tracks the implementation of corrective and preventive actions and collaborates with EH&S and Risk Management offices.
  • Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery, driving etc.). Conduct risk assessments and enforce preventative measures for the different operational areas. Review existing policies and measures. Update according to PS&T safety & training requirements and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for all operational areas.
  • Coordinate, organize and track training for all PS&T employees.
  • Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment) and reports accordingly. Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances, etc. in conjunction with university EH&S regulations.
  • Exercise independent judgment with the authority to immediately stop any unsafe acts, conditions or processes that pose a risk to environment, health, and life safety.
  • Manages incidents/accidents investigation PS&T program. Performs safety analysis and develops training programs to foster a safer work environment. Supervise safety requirements and effectively implements processes, Procedures, and programs to enhance safety and reduce accidents.
  • Conduct safety walkthroughs to assess appropriate lighting levels in parking facilities and ingress/egress access points.
  • Oversees safety assessments of safety equipment, emergency call boxes, CCTV camera locations to improve safety conditions.
  • Develops and maintains procedures, including the loading and unloading of passengers, the use of wheelchair lifts, use of heavy equipment (articulating booms, bucket truck, backhoe, rollers, and fuel trailers). Recommends budgetary allocations in support of PS&T health and safety programs and initiatives. Serves as safety liaison with FDOT District 6, City of Sweetwater and Multi-Modal Transportation Systems.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate specialization and four (4) years of appropriate experience or Master's degree in an appropriate specialization and two (2) years of appropriate experience.
Departmental Requirements
  • OSHA Certification
